Last season Mohamed Kudos got less than 500 minutes for Ajax combined across the Eredivisie and Champions League. He’s already beaten that figure in the current campaign, after trying to force a move to Everton towards the end of the summer transfer window.
Kudos was thought to be of the opinion that if Ajax weren’t going to use him then he may as well try to get chances with a Premier League club, and Everton were prepared to give him that opportunity.
He was also concerned that Brian Brobbey was being brought back to the Dutch side, and that such a move would make it even harder to get minutes.
SoccerNews suggest Ajax have been giving Kudos more minutes precisely down to that missed transfer to Everton, and it’s not been going badly. He’s scored nine goals and contributed one assist this season, playing in a variety of roles upfront.
Whilst it’s still thought Brobbey is the better out-and-out striker, Kudus is praised for his work off the ball. SoccerNews say: ‘Kudus is always on the go, looks where the spaces are and ensures that he is much more playable than Brobbey.’
The report explains that whilst Brobbey is a ‘top striker in the making’, he can be lazy at times, and that’s a big contrast to Kudos.
A situation for Everton to keep an eye on, with Kudos surely likely to feel aggrieved if he’s set to largely play second fiddle to Brobbey.
