Manchester City are potential rivals to Juventus for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar this summer.
That’s according to Coach Meddy, described as being close to the footballer, who says he’s been made aware of interest from the Etihad in the French midfielder.
Aouar has established himself as one of the hottest young midfielders in Europe in recent years, with a series of impressive performances for Lyon in Ligue 1 and Europe.
He’s subsequently been linked with a move to several big sides in Europe, particularly Juventus, who are thought to see him as a major target moving forwards.
Manchester City have also been named as suitors on several occasions, with the last report on their interest coming at the beginning of this month when it was claimed City had the midfielder ‘under very close observation’.
Whether they make a move in the summer remains to be seen, particularly given their focus seems to be on adding a top-level striker to replace Sergio Aguero.
Coach Meddy certainly believes they are interested, though, stating that Manchester City and Real Madrid are competing with Juventus for his signature.
“I do not know for sure if he is already a player of Juventus or not,” he told JuveNews.eu.
“What I can assure is that the Bianconeri follow him for a year and a half, but there is also Real Madrid and Manchester City.
“It’s clear that the Juve is the favourite because they have been following him for the longest time, and in my opinion, it would be the perfect shot because he can replace Pjanic for the role he plays. During the winter break of 2019, he and Anelka met to talk about his future, as Nicolas has played with many teams in both Italy and England and can steer him very well.
“I can’t say if he prefers Juve or City, but surely, Juve is a legendary club and those who like football like Juve. Aouar is very strong technically and is now working a lot on physical strength to increase physicality and endurance.
“Lately, he has certainly gained more muscle mass, he is still very young, and if he goes to Juve, he can develop even more because it is an environment in which they work a lot on the physical aspect.”
