The chairman of Envigado FC has revealed Watford are edging closer towards completing a deal for the transfer of Yaser Asprilla.
The attacking midfielder, who turns 18 today, came up through the ranks of the Colombian side’s academy before making his way into the senior team.
His performances for the South American club attracted interest from the Hornets, and the Premier League side are now set to secure the player’s services.
“He is close to Watford, some details are missing, but it’s an almost closed deal,” Envigado chief Ramiro Ruiz told Gianluca Di Marzio.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Watford started negotiations with Envigado ‘a year ago’, and the possibility of Asprilla playing for Udinese was also discussed. Ruiz says the teenager could continue with his current employer for a while, even if Watford agree a deal for his transfer.
“We talked about it [move to Udinese], but it has not yet been decided because it may be that he can stay with us for a while before playing in Europe,” he explained.
Asprilla has five goals and an assist in 19 matches for the senior team. The Colombian also discussed the possibility of having a spell at Udinese. He made this admission after revealing his dream to join Barcelona in the future.
“We talked about it, but we have to wait until January to see how the situation will be, what the club will decide. I like Italian football and it is played with intensity,” Asprilla told Grandhotelcalciomercato.com.
“My goal is to play in Europe, my favourite club is Barcelona and one day I would like to play there, but first of all I would like to help and improve the situation of my family who have always made so many sacrifices for me.”
