Late last month, there was a lot of talk of Hatem Ben Arfa potentially joining Leicester City, with some outlets claiming a January move could be on the cards.
While we enjoy a good transfer rumour at Sport Witness, we recently gave our two cents about why such a move wouldn’t be a good idea for the Foxes, even if Claude Puel is a big fan of the French forward.
The only way it would make sense would be next summer if the French manager decides a complete overhaul of the squad is needed, and, even then, it would still be a gamble.
Either way, if Leicester fans were excited/worried at the prospect of the Paris Saint-Germain flop’s arrival at King Power Stadium this winter, be prepared to be disappointed/relieved.
According to Le Parisien on Tuesday, Ben Arfa will only leave his comfortable paycheque in the French capital in January for a team capable of winning the Champions League, and that isn’t going to happen anytime soon.
Earning around €500k/month with the Ligue 1 leaders, the forward knows he’ll struggle to make as much elsewhere over the next six months, hence the decision to stay.
An interesting mentality for an apparently ambitious player.
