Over the past year the French media has gone a little rumour crazy, and Riyad Mahrez is a prime example of that.
Different French outlets have claimed the player has been close to signing for various clubs over the past two windows, with contradictory claims coming and going.
Liverpool are the latest club to become involved with the Leicester City player, with French claims there’s been contact and a deal is close. Those claims have been shot down by Liverpool sources, but the rumour won’t go away.
It’s always worth having a look at what is being said in Algeria about Mahrez, and Le Buteur don’t let us down. They cover the claims from England and France, and say Jurgen Klopp ‘insists’ on having the player, although it’s not clear if that’s their own information.
What Le Buteur do mark out as their own information is that Mahrez’s agent hasn’t heard anything about it. He’s not met with Liverpool for talks and there’s been no approach, according to the Algerian source.
It’s then explained that Liverpool first want to come to an agreement with Leicester City before approaching Mahrez’s entourage. The lack of agent contact could either be because Liverpool want to do things correctly, having got in hot water over Virgil van Dijk, or because it’s all nonsense.
Time will, or may, tell.
