AS Roma’s pursuit for Manchester United fullback Diogo Dalot is a story which has been around for months now, with Jose Mourinho willing to reunite with the fullback who worked with him at Old Trafford.
Since the Portuguese player was mostly staying on the Red Devils’ bench this year, he was seen as a feasible signing for the January transfer window, and the Giallorossi apparently made serious moves for his signing.
According to a report from Calcio Mercato today, following Mourinho’s request, Roma director Tiago Pinto got in touch with Dalot’s agent and had an ‘agreement in principle’ for the move.
The situation, however, turned around once Ralf Rangnick arrived at Manchester United and ‘removed him from the market’, as the 20-year-old became the first option for the right-back position.
Calcio Mercato says this was a ‘frozen shower’ for Roma, who are now set to go after other players for that role, which is Mourinho’s priority for the team.
Something similar about Dalot is today reported by Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.
The outlet featured a piece claiming that Rangnick intends to continue having the player as the first option for the right-back position, and then blocked his sale in the January window.
So with a contract running until 2023, it seems Dalot will indeed have a new life at Old Trafford.
