Wednesday’s edition of L’Equipe backs up other French claims that Nampalys Mendy is set to leave Leicester City on loan.
Mendy’s camp had been working on an exit for the player all summer, but Leicester City weren’t keen to bow down to demands.
Bordeaux were the player’s first choice, with the midfielder’s agent saying Mendy was ‘obsessed’ by the idea of joining the French club.
Unfortunately, Bordeaux didn’t seem quite so obsessed themselves, unwilling to make enough of an effort to convince Leicester City.
On Tuesday Le10 Sport claimed Leicester had given in, at least slightly, and would let Mendy join Atalanta with a view to a permanent deal.
L’Equipe’s version says Atalanta will have an ‘option’ to purchase Mendy, rather than an obligation.
The player’s agent is quoted as saying: “An agreement is very close.”
With Mendy’s desire to return to French football, it’s perhaps strange no Ligue 1 club have managed to agree a loan with Leicester City.
