Chelsea have been active in the transfer market after making five new additions to their squad for the 2020/21 season.
Thiago Silva was one of the players to arrive at Stamford Bridge this summer and the centre-back joined the Blues on a free transfer, after running down his contract at Paris Saint-Germain.
Frank Lampard’s side offered the centre-back a one-year contract and retain an option to extend it by a further 12 months.
Paulo Tonietto, the Brazilian’s agent, has given an interview to TuttoMercatoWeb, in which he discussed the approach made by other clubs in signing his client, before the defender put pen to paper on a contract at Chelsea.
“Only a contact [with Fiorentina] three months ago, but we never talked about numbers and other situations,” the representative said.
“I also tell you that I don’t even remember the name of Fiorentina’s sporting director. But I can tell you that for Thiago, there was another Italian team and it wasn’t Milan.”
Tonietto has also revealed PSG sporting director Leonardo wanted to retain the 35-year-old at Parc des Princes for the upcoming season.
“Leonardo wanted to keep him, last week he even called him to talk about another year of contract. But we agreed on everything with Chelsea. However, with PSG we ended very well, Al Khelaifi is number one. It is very rare to find such a president,” Tonietto stressed.
Silva came close to winning the Champions League with PSG, and suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich in the final last month.
Having failed to win the competition with the Paris club, the defender has set his sights on winning Europe’s elite club competition with Chelsea.
“He wants to win everything [with Chelsea]; the Champions League and the Premier League. It’s a world-class team that has taken on a great player,” Silva’s agent stressed.
