In the past couple of days, we’ve seen a couple of English outlets saying Manchester United have been monitoring the Grêmio midfielder Arthur.
It may be just another speculation for Manchester United fans, but these rumours get quite big when they travel to Brazil, with several outlets covering it.
Arthur has been having a great season at Grêmio, being one of the main stars who took the team to the Libertadores final, which will be played later this month.
That’s why there are big expectations about his future, and following this week’s Manchester United stories, there have been developments in the Brazilian press.
Reacting to the Manchester United rumours, Globo Esporte contacted the midfielder’s agent Jorge Machado, who claimed that there have been no official offers from José Mourinho’s side.
Arthur has recently signed a new contract at Grêmio, which increased his release clause from €40m to €50m.
Globo Esporte recalls that Barcelona recently sent scouts to watch Grêmio matches in the Copa Libertadores, with Arthur being followed, so in case United are really interested, they are not alone in the race.
On Friday, journalist Pedro Ernesto was another one who published a story, saying that in a restaurant on Thursday evening, Arthur’s agent said his destination should be Barcelona.
But Ernesto isn’t exactly the most reliable person to talk about it. Earlier this year ago, he reported a €35m bid from Liverpool for Luan, and months later, the player renewed his contract with a €18m release clause, which means that was likely to be incorrect.
With the potential that Arthur has been showing, it’s very likely that he will be featuring in Europe soon. But for now, it seems too early for Manchester United and others.
