Last week, we got to see Everton back to getting linked to Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata.
A couple of stories from the Italian media pointed out the Toffees are still contenders for that signing, as the club ‘still maintain interest‘ in him.
Everton obviously still need to avoid relegation to keep their chances of taking Zapata from Atalanta, but those rumours were enough to make some noise around the player.
With Atalanta having another disappointing defeat this season, his agent was interviewed by Sport Italia, and was asked about the striker’s future.
The representative made it clear there’s a commitment with the Serie A side, but did not rule out a summer exit.
“Duvan is recovering from the injury. And he has a contract that expires in 2024 with an option to renew for the following season. Therefore, he will continue at Atalanta,” Fernando Schenal told Sport Italia.
“In the summer, we will see if an offer suitable for both the player and Atalanta will arrive, in which case we will evaluate it”.
Zapata only has one goal and four assists in 17 appearances for Atalanta this season. He’s been struggling with thigh injuries, and this is the second time in the season where he misses a few games for the club.
Atalanta stand in sixth in Serie A, only getting a place in the Conference League for now, and that may be enough for Zapata to look for something better in the summer. The doubt is if Everton will be able to offer him so.
