Late last week, Nuno Tavares, currently loaned by Arsenal to Marseille, made it clear he would be returning to the Emirates in the summer.

The Portuguese defender was sent to the south of France to get minutes, which Igor Tudor has happily been giving him, but there’s no denying the player’s performance on Sunday evening against Paris Saint-Germain was nothing short of dreadful.

Some of it isn’t all his fault, since his manager decided to play the Arsenal loanee down the right hand side of a back three, which isn’t exactly his natural position.

He even had a chance to open the score early on, but was unable to find the back of the net, and everything that followed needs to be forgotten.

La Provence in France analyse his performance following the 3-0 loss, recalling that with Tavares, you know you can expect one of two things: he’s either brilliant or terrible.

Well, it was the latter.

The decision by Tudor to play him down the right was ‘disastrous’, and even after he was put back in a more familiar role down the left, ‘he didn’t do much better’.

Sunday saw the ‘negative’ version of the player emerge, and while he has been praised in the past for some performances, this wasn’t one of them, with the newspaper giving him an average of 2.7/10 for his display.
