Given West Ham’s efforts to sign a striker this month, and that the Hammers seem to be going from one target to another, it presents a very tempting situation for agents.
Even those who don’t directly represent players will be attracted by the possibility of building a deal for the London club, and, of course, taking the associated commission they’d receive.
That scenario leads to Saturday claims from Italy that Edin Dzeko has been ‘offered’ to West Ham by ‘an Italian agent’. Corriere dello Sport bring the news, and the way it’s presented it doesn’t sound like someone directly representing the striker, but rather an intermediary trying to take advantage of the situation.
Unfortunately, there’s no further information on what’s happened since then, with it seeming like the offer was made very recently.
According to the Italian newspaper, Dzeko has had a major disagreement with AS Roma manager Paulo Fonseca, so much so that their relationship is thought to be beyond repair.
Dzeko, Roma’s captain, has been dropped from the squad for the match against Spezia. This hasn’t gone down well with all his teammates, and it feels like Fonseca may have something of a revolt on his hands.
Regardless, a route out for 34-year-old looks possible, although his €7m wages are proving a problem.
Now it’s over to West Ham to see if they’re tempted by the offer from an unnamed agent.
