Stories linking Viktor Fischer with a move to Celtic have been growing over the past 24 hours, largely based on Brendan Rodgers having a long time admiration for the Middlesbrough player.
Given that Fischer was once easily rated one of the best youngsters in Europe, it’s only natural that Rodgers has been a long term admirer, but it’s only Fischer’s fall from grace which presents an opportunity.
If Fischer fails to succeed with Middlesbrough in the Championship then it will see his career slip a little more. The forward, who turns 23 years of age in a week, may well feel a move to Celtic Park comes a greater likelihood of success, and would be somewhere with more optimism around the place.
The Celtic link has obviously made it’s way to Denmark, with the Erik Sviatchenko link giving the possibility of Fischer joining up with a national teammate.
But, right now, this all looks in the theory stage. Danish newspaper BT went to the length of contacting Fischer’s agent Soren Lerby, who wasn’t prepared to talk up the possible switch.
The Danish media are usually very well connected to the affairs of their compatriots, and very interested in reporting on it, but there’s no huge push on Fischer to Celtic right now.
