Super-agent Jorge Mendes has ‘knocked on doors’ this summer, including that of Newcastle United, trying to find a new club for Joao Felix.

That’s according to Marca, who say Newcastle have been offered the Portuguese forward as he continues to try and find a way to avoid returning to Atlético Madrid.

Felix is set to return to work with the Spanish side next month following his loan spell at Chelsea between January and the end of this season.

The hope had been that he could convince the Blues into a permanent transfer but that has not happened, and Mauricio Pochettino is believed to have ruled out the possibility.

Thus, his agent, Jorge Mendes, has ‘knocked on doors’ this summer trying to find a new club for his client, with Marca stating that it was ‘Newcastle among others’ where he went.

As of June 30th, there is no ‘concrete offer’ on the table for him to depart the Wanda Metropolitano, but there is an increasing need to find one as he edges closer to returning to work with Atlético, which he does not want to do.

Finding a club for him is a tricky matter as Felix wants to play Champions League football, something Newcastle can offer him, but none of the clubs at that level are interested in a deal at this point.

Atlético are also just not going to give their record signing away on the cheap and so either a big €100m permanent transfer is needed or at least a loan that would see his salary paid in full and at least cover the €15m per season in amortisation for the forward.

Again, nobody, not even Newcastle with their Saudi Arabian backing, appears keen to pay that despite Mendes knocking on doors trying to find an opening.
