After Tuesday night’s reports from Italy that Lucas Torreira to Arsenal was being treated as done, there’s been further confirmation, this time from the defensive midfielder’s home country, that it could be made official very soon.
According to Embajadores Del Gol in Uruguay, the player’s agent, Pablo Bentnacur, is now expected to travel to Russia in the ‘coming hours’ with Arsenal emissaries in order for his client to sign his contract with the Gunners.
This comes after a report from Sport Mediaset in Italy claimed Arsenal had agreed to pay Sampdoria €30m, €5m more than Torreira’s release clause, for the 22-year-old.
It appears that everyone involved was keen to sort this out before the start of the World Cup so that the Serie A starlet could focus on the coming month without having to worry about his future.
The young midfielder is currently with his national team in Nizhny Novgorod preparing for the international tournament, with Uruguay’s first game on Friday against Egypt.
