French newspaper L’Equipe have another article today on a potential Lyon move for Adnan Januzaj. The Manchester Untied owned player is currently on loan at Sunderland, but has caught the attention of Lyon, and L’Equipe say it’s a possible deal the club have been working on for weeks.
When Januzaj broke through at Manchester United it’s no exaggeration to say he looked like one of the best young players in Europe. Januzaj’s form was so good, and his contract at that stage so short, there were worries Manchester United could lose the player to another top European club.
A new contract was signed and then gradually Januzaj slipped in prominence, and form when given chances, so much so that the loan to Sunderland surprised nobody.
Reunited with David Moyes, Januzaj hasn’t got close to his sparkling best form, but there have been signs he could get on an upward curve.
Januzaj is a serious option for Lyon but the structure of any possible deal isn’t set yet, whether it be a straight loan, a loan with an option to buy, or a permanent transfer.
Belgian newspaper HLN quote the player’s agent Dirk De Vries as saying: “Lyon is one of the many French clubs who have recently sounded out the plans of Adnan. Out of respect, we listen to everyone. However, the ultimate decision is Manchester United’s, and from them we haven’t yet heard the club wants to sell Adnan.
“Adnan was strong both against Chelsea and against Liverpool. On Match of the Day he got great comments. Adnan has greatly increased in level. It’s going well, and the manager Moyes believes in him.”
Whether Januzaj stays at Sunderland is likely to depend on what the player and his father want.
