Reports that Bayern Munich have offered Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum a three-year contract are false claims spread by his agent.
That’s according to FCB Inside, who say that, according to their information, there is no interest from the German giants.
Wijnaldum’s contract with Liverpool expires in the summer, and despite that having been the situation for the last year, there has been no progress on a new deal.
It is looking increasingly likely he will leave Liverpool on a free transfer and, despite consistent links to Barcelona for the last year, that ship appears to have sailed.
That’s seen alternative rumours emerge, particularly around Bayern Munich, with it claimed that their new boss Julian Nagelsmann is a big fan of the Dutchman.
That rumour has been roundly dismissed in Germany, where it’s been made clear that the Bavarians are not interested in the Liverpool man.
FCB Inside pick up on that today and state that the latest rumours around Wijnaldum, in particular those stating Bayern had offered the 30-year-old a ‘concrete’ three-year deal, were ‘spread by his advisor in the media’.
That’s a pretty big accusation, and they don’t offer more than that, but it would make plenty of sense.
With Liverpool not pushing hard to get a new deal signed and Barcelona further and further away by the day, linking Wijnaldum to the likes of Bayern could get other suitors, or even the Catalans, back at the table and post-haste.
That’s a little desperate, of course, but we all know agents will do anything to get their clients the best move and we wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some truth to these claims as a result.
