Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne has been hailed as ‘world class’ and the ‘best midfielder in the world’ after his performance against Liverpool.
The Belgian was in fine form in during City’s high profile clash with their rivals on Sunday, playing a key role in the 2-2 draw.
He was very much the orchestrator in chief for Manchester City through, displaying his full range of passing in a dominant midfield display.
He ended the game with a goal to his name but should have had at least one assist, with Riyad Mahrez lifting his effort over the bar when played clean through by a sumptuous pass from De Bruyne late on.
The midfielder’s display was arguably among his best this season and meant the praise was more than forthcoming in the post-match analysis.
Two who were more than impressed were Filip Joos and Franky Van der Elst, who did not hold back in their estimations of the Manchester City star.
“It was also courtesy of Liverpool. You have to say that,” Joos told Extra Time, relayed by Voetbal Primeur.
“There was space. Sometimes he is a victim of the fact that he plays in too good a team; I keep thinking that. When he has space, I think he’s just the best midfielder in the world.”
“He needed some time to come through, but against Liverpool, he was absolutely world-class,” added Van der Elst.
“The way he plays soccer, he’s among the best in the world at his position. Those passes just keep coming, no matter how difficult they are. They also always come in the right place, with the right speed.”
