On Thursday morning it was believed in Italy that Olivier Giroud was the Premier League player Inter Milan were closest to signing.
That changed throughout the day as an agreement was reached with Manchester United for Ashley Young, who is travelling today for a medical, and Christian Eriksen’s agent turned up in Milan to finalise his client’s contract.
Friday’s edition of L’Equipe reports there’s still no agreement between Inter and Chelsea, and Gazzetta dello Sport reports the same.
An outline contract for the player until June 2022 has been drawn up, with the final year being dependent on Giroud playing a certain number of games for Inter before then.
‘Good news’ is now wanted from Chelsea, with Inter determined not to go over €5m given the player’s age and contract situation. The Blues had been asking for €10m, and it’s stated Roman Abramovich is being tough because he doesn’t want to help Antonio Conte too much.
Marina Granovskaia is said to have brought the asking price down to €8m, and it’s thought she could give another ‘concession’.
