Paris Saint-Germain will have to offload a few of their players in the summer transfer window and the list would include the likes of Goncalo Guedes, Angel Di Maria, Javier Pastore and Grzegorz Krychowiak.
Guedes arrived at Parc des Princes from Benfica in January 2017. After six months, the Portugal international was allowed to join Valencia on a season-long loan deal. The forward made 33 appearances in the league for Marcelino’s side, scoring five goals and registering nine assists in the process.
Today’s edition of French newspaper L’Equipe claims Valencia have long been interested in signing the 21-year-old permanently. The La Liga outfit and PSG have been involved in negotiations for a while, but the two clubs are yet to find an agreement.
The report claims PSG’s discussions with Valencia was “stretched” in the last few months, despite the two clubs having an “oral agreement” in principle to allow Guedes to join the Spanish club on a permanent deal.
This is where Wolves are brought in, presented as a serious option.
Guedes is under contract until 2021 and PSG have slapped €45m+ price tag on him. The Ligue 1 winners view that his sale for anything less than the mentioned price would be “perceived as mediocre”.
L’Equipe considers Guedes’ transfer to Wolves as an “in-house solution” because the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has a good relationship with the newly promoted Premier League club.
Wolves may well be being used here to pressure Valencia, even with them both being Mendes friendly clubs. Nuno Espirito Santo will know all about Guedes and the youngster is certainly a talented footballer, but €45m is probably a little on the high side.
But then, L’Equipe do suggest PSG could get €70-90m for Angel Di Maria, which is ambitious to say the least.
