Saturday’s edition of Colombian newspaper E Heraldo has a very short and sweet claim on Everton and Frank Fabra.

It’s stated: ‘Everton of England would be interested in hiring the services of the left side of the Colombian team, Frank Fabra, who currently plays in Boca Juniors.’

That’s it, no song and dance, but it brings the Toffees back into a situation which had gone somewhat cold in recent weeks.

Initial links between Everton and Fabra came in early April and Sport Witness’ Lucas Sposito spoke to the player’s agent Mr. José Constanzo, who explained: “We know of a supposed interest from Everton, but we have not met with anybody of the club.

“Now we did travel, we were in London, Manchester and Liverpool, taking advantage that the Argentine team played there.”

“Boca will always ask for what the clause says, and that is fifteen million dollars (£10.6m). But they told us that if a logical offer comes for what the player is worth, they are going to sell him. I think he’ll end up playing in the Premier League. There are other teams looking for left-backs.

“So let’s wait for what is the best in money and sportingly and we will decide. Frank wants to play in the Premier. But Napoli can be a possibility too.”

In mid April Constanzo told Sport Witness it wasn’t only Everton keen, adding: “We’re advancing with many clubs. I believe he will end up playing in the Premier League.”

Then things went quiet as Everton prepared their day of the long knives at Goodison Park and made way for Marcel Brands and the new manager.

Brands has good connections in South America through his work for PSV and it would be no surprise if he’s well aware of the Fabra situation. The Dutchman starts at Everton on June 1st and is currently in a rush to complete as much PSV business as possible before then.
