Gazzetta dello Sport have backed up claims Stephan Lichtsteiner is close to signing for Arsenal. The Swiss right back has long been expected to leave Juventus at the end of his current contract and there’s been links with several teams.

Interestingly, one of the sides linked over the past few months has been Borussia Dortmund, so perhaps he’s one who has long been on Sven’s long-list.

With his Juventus deal almost at an end, Lichtsteiner can speak to who he chooses, and Gazzetta explain he did that yesterday. They say the 34 year old is set to ‘speak English’, travelled to London for talks, and is now ‘close’ to signing for Arsenal.

It’s almost a reverse Juve deal, with the Turin club well known for not being scared to bring in experience on a free or cheap transfer.

With Arsenal not having the biggest budget this summer, it makes some sense to exploit market opportunities that won’t cost a great deal.

Lichtsteiner has been a reliable and flexible player for Juventus since signing for the club in 2011, but now the Turin side are looking to move on to someone younger.
