Liverpool are still considered to be one of the clubs who could take Gelson Martins from Sporting in the next transfer market.
Even though it’s been a while since the Reds were seriously linked to the player, A Bola puts the Merseyside club along with Borussia Dortmund as the competitors for him.
Ahead of the Lisbon derby that will be played this weekend, the newspaper brings a transfer special explaining four players who could be leaving Benfica or Sporting in the transfer window.
Gelson Martins is among them, and even though the transfer rumours surrounding him have gone quite for a while now, they had to link at least two clubs, which are Dortmund and Liverpool.
A Bola doesn’t have much to say about recent attempts from these clubs, so what they comment on is Gelson Martins’ price.
Even though his €60m release clause could be considered too big, the newspaper claims that it could still be paid by a big club who wants to avoid competition and guarantee the signing.
But with the claims continuing to be so vague, it’s hard to believe Jurgen Klopp’s side are very close to spending that much on the winger, despite the insistence of interest.
Last summer the claims were somewhat stronger, with it being reported in Portugal that Liverpool had put a €50m offer on the table. If that was true, an extra €10m doesn’t seem such a stretch.
