As Mundo Deportivo give their front page to Samuel Umtiti and renewed efforts to get the Frenchman to sign a renewal, with a release clause of €250m+, Sport concentrate on Clement Lenglet.
What may have started as interest motivated solely by the Umtiti situation seems to have evolved for the Catalan media.
Sport explains there’s several reasons Barca are keen, Umtiti gets a mention, but so does the age of Gerard Pique (31) and Thomas Vermaelen (32) and that Yerry Mina hasn’t managed to convince since arriving from South America.
There’s several claims from Sport which show a confidence in the potential transfer.
- Barcelona have met Lenglet’s agents in the city.
- The signing is ‘increasingly closer’.
- Lenglet’s ‘fate’ will be Barca.
- Barcelona are ‘making strides’ with their efforts.
- The player is optimistic about the move and winning a place.
It’s the meeting which Sport say has been a very important step forward, with everyone being frank and open. The basis of a future financial agreement was discussed, and also how to deal with Sevilla.
The Catalan newspapers can be convinced about a signing one week and move on to someone else for the next, but there certainly feels something in this. It may be more related to being able to offload Mina than whatever happens with Umtiti.
