If the Samuel Umtiti stories are to be believed, and we’re still a bit skeptical about those, then Manchester United will be after a new centre-back this summer.
The Barcelona man is an ideal recruit as he’s young, experienced and wouldn’t be that expensive (in the current market, at least), with a €60m release clause in his contract.
However, if/when he signs a new deal with the La Liga leaders, then the Red Devils will have to look elsewhere, which is where Dayotchanculle Upamecano comes in.
The RB Leipzig defender has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in the past, before he moved to Germany, and Manchester United haven’t given up on him, according to La Provence in France.
The French newspaper had a sit down with the France U21 defender ahead of his team’s clash against Marseille in the Europa League, and asked him whether or not a move in the summer is something on his mind.
He answered: “I’m here and I feel very good. Everything is going well with the manager, the staff and the rest of the team. We’ll see what the future holds, but, for now, I’m keeping my feet on the ground. I’m here and nowhere else”.
Judging by his meteoric rise this year, it would cost a hell of a lot to convince Leipzig to let go of their 19-year-old starlet.
Then again, Manchester United have rarely been fazed by high demands recently.
