After Celtic’s vital first leg win over Zenit St Petersburg on Thursday night, the Russian media has praised the atmosphere at Celtic Park.
Brendan Rodger’s side beat the Russian club 1-0 thanks to a goal from Callum McGregor, which gives the SPL champions a slight advantage going into the second leg.
Sport Express journalist Gosha Chernov is hopeful that Zenit can beat Celtic in Russia, but he still has a lot of admiration for the atmosphere at Celtic Park: “It’s a brilliant atmosphere. Every single minute, the fans kept going. They supported their team. The whole arena is like a boiling volcano, it’s incredible.”
Celtic Park has become something of a fortress for Celtic in Europe over the years, and the Hoops’ faithful have been treated to some special nights.
An impressive 3-0 away victory over Anderlecht helped Celtic secure their place in the Europa League, which will give them confidence going into to the return tie in St Petersburg.
With the league title more or less tied up, Rodgers will be able to concentrate all his efforts getting Celtic into the next round of the competition.
