Matteo Darmian, linked to Italy as often as he is, could find a safe haven in Spain in the near future.
Close to being lambasted by Manchester United fans for his recent performances under José Mourinho, the Italy international appears to be living his final months in the north of England, with a transfer in the summer looking increasingly likely.
According to Super Deporte, and it isn’t the first time this has happened, Valencia are very keen on him.
Marcelino, their manager, has apparently told the club he wants a right-back, and while Joao Cancelo returning, currently on loan at Inter, would be the ideal option, Matteo Darmian is the realistic one.
For the Spaniard, the Manchester United right-back ticks all the boxes: he’s experienced, not too old and there’s little need to tell him what to do.
The problem here remains the Premier League side, who will want to make as much money back on their initial expenditure as possible.
The interest is definitely there by the sounds of things, and this is a transfer that makes sense, as long as Valencia get some money in.
And that’s why the sale of Cancelo, whom Inter have already agreed a €35m buy-out clause in the loan, could come in handy.
