Newcastle United could do Real Madrid a real big favour.
The Spanish club are feeling guilty, explain Marca, again, because they denied Kiko Casilla a move to Newcastle in the summer. Rafael Benitez ‘knocked on the door’ to sign Casilla and the goalkeeper was assured of a first team place, and offered a big salary.
Real Madrid said no, but now just several months later they’re set to sign Kepa, which would make Casilla third choice and wholly unnecessary.
There’s worry whether the player will be able to get an offer as good as the Newcastle one from the summer, so it would be perfect if the club returned.
Despite an excellent performance from Karl Darlow against Stoke City, it would be no surprise if Benitez remains interested, and Casilla could be a great value deal.
Real Madrid would do all they could to smooth a transfer through, and this is one January signing Newcastle United could find relatively easy to do.
If not, and if there’s no other good offers, Kiko Casilla could spend the rest of the season as third choice.
