As we edge closer to the January transfer window, expect more and more clubs to be linked with some of the players on the fringe of squads around the Premier League, a role Matteo Darmian currently occupies.
On Thursday, we covered Corriere dello Sport’s claims that Roma, who are looking for a full-back, were thinking about ‘forcing’ Manchester United into giving them the Italian defender on a loan with a view to buy, and now Juventus want to get involved.
The same newspaper state Stephan Lichsteiner could be on his way out of the Turin club in January, and while it appears Sime Vrsaljko is top of the list all of a sudden, Matteo Darmian is also on it.
The fact he’s only featured 10 times for Manchester United this season, averaging 67 minutes per appearance, is a key factor in this, and, although he doesn’t have a World Cup to play for, he can’t really afford to sit around at this point in his career.
On top of that, it’s no secret that Darmian wouldn’t be against a return to Italy, having given the Premier League a go and done relatively well at times.
It would be interesting to see if the Italy international would be open to a move to Juventus, considering he played for Torino and all that, but, if not, Napoli and the aforementioned Roma are also options for him.
This is one that’s going to drag on all winter, that’s for sure.
