In the past few days, we’ve been covering the Portuguese press’ reaction to the statement made by Sporting and West Ham this week.
By hearing that the relationship between the clubs is back to normal, the Lisbon newspapers understood that the sides are probably negotiating for the transfer of William Carvalho once again.
Now there’s another newspaper backing up this information, this time with a report which they can call their own.
A Bola claims they know that West Ham have been monitoring the player even after the summer negotiations collapsed, and the Hammers could make another attempt in the January window.
Sporting have the intention to keep Carvalho until the end of the season, and that’s the player’s thoughts as well.
The club are currently offering him a new contract, which would tie him up until 2021 with a €60m release clause. He won’t sign it unless there’s a pay rise, and that’s what his agent is negotiating.
A Bola seems pretty confident that Carvalho won’t leave unless a very good bid comes to Sporting. While he doesn’t sign a new deal, €45m is the clause to take him, and that’s what A Bola think West Ham will need to offer.
