Arsenal are looking to sign a striker this summer, and have turned their attention towards Alexandre Lacazette after failing to sign Jamie Vardy.
Lyon have already confirmed they’ve rejected a bid of €35m for Lacazette. It is reported Arsenal are ready to make another offer of ‘over €40m’ for the Frenchman, whilst Paris-Saint Germain are also interested.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport on Monday, Arsenal are ready to make a new offer of €42m for Lacazette.
Gazzetta say Paris-Saint Germain are also interested, but Lacazette won’t play for another club in France so that’s an advantage for the Gunners.
However, it remains to be seen if an offer of €42m would be enough to tempt Lyon, as reports in the French media suggest Arsenal might have to bid close to €52m to strike a deal.
Lyon play in the Champions League next season, and are under no pressure to sell Lacazette.
Local Lyon newspaper Le Progress says on Monday that Lacazette is happy where he is, and quotes Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas as saying the player is set to get a bumper new contract: “It is my desire to reach an agreement that allows him to understand that he is one of our best assets, if not the best. That will be reflected in what we will propose before the start of the championship.”
