One of the Barcelona transfer stories repeatedly popping up in the Catalan media right now is Leon Goretzka. The young Schalke midfielder has a contract until the end of June, and whilst his situation with the club has improved recently, there’s still expectation he’s got his pick of several European clubs.

Unsurprisingly, the Catalan media feel he’d prefer Barcelona to anyone else. Mundo Deportivo state Goretzka has already confirmed to ‘Catalan emissaries’ that his desire is to sign for Barcelona in the summer.

Despite that, it’s stated the German international has also ‘recognised’ the ‘great interest’ of other clubs, including Manchester City and Arsenal.

Arsenal are repeatedly linked with Goretzka and, in comparison, Manchester City not so much. But with Pep Guardiola seemingly always on the lookout for midfielders with an attacking verve, Goretzka may well have caught the eye.

Just like Barcelona, Manchester City can offer a good chance of winning titles, and competing at the top of European competition. That would surely give Guardiola an edge on his rival Arsene Wenger.

If Manchester City interest is as strong as Mundo Deportivo claim, then surely one of those famous Guardiola telephone calls will be going in soon.
