This Wednesday, Italian website Calcio Mercato have managed an interview with Giuseppe Cannella, an intermediary who works on transfers between Italy and England.
The agent spoke about many players who have been linked to Premier League clubs, with one of them being Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.
There’s been lots of speculations around the player for quite some years now, although the clubs said to be interested in him have been changing.
One of these sides was Southampton, who reportedly held talks with Napoli back in 2015, but didn’t manage to find an agreement with the Serie A club.
Speaking of the player, Cannella only mentioned Southampton as a club with concrete interest, and confirmed that talks happened.
“I’m sure that Koulibaly in Sarri’s first year, just like two seasons ago, has the Premier’s eyes on him. I can testify, because of the negotiation, that Southampton was the first club to make an offer to Napoli to take him to the Premier.
But when talking about potential destinations for Koulibally, the intermediary believes that the defender would now only leave for a club of another level to Southampton.
“If an important club such as PSG in France, especially the English between the two of Manchester and beyond, they can definitely get to make an important offer, then it’s up to the player. Of course he is a player for that type of squad.”
