Fenerbahçe manager Aykut Kocaman has confirmed West Bromwich Albion target Josef de Souza is in transfer talks, but NtvSpor claim Fenerbahçe have rejected the first offer from the English club.
At the weekend, reports emerged from Turkey that West Brom boss Tony Pulis is keen on the 28 year old Brazilian midfielder, and that the Premier League side have made an offer.
Speaking to the Turkish media, Kocaman confirmed talks before the Genclerbirligi game last night: “Josef is not starting because he was involved in some transfer talks over the weekend and this could hamper his motivation.”
After the game Kocaman said: “Josef has received a serious offer from abroad and he’s approaching it positively. If it all fits well, then I’ll have no choice but to allow his departure.”
Despite Kocaman’s comments, NtvSpor claim Fenerbahce have rejected West Brom’s initial bid of €11m for Souza.
Fenerbahce are demanding around €13m for the Brazilian, but we covered reports from Turkey yesterday that West Brom are unwilling to increase their bid.
West Brom have offered is €4m up front, with the remaining €7m being paid in two years. NtvSpor say Fenerbahçe rejected the offer because of the payment structure, and if West Brom are willing to negotiate on the remaining €7m, Fenerbahce might be tempted to accept the offer.
