During West Ham’s endless chase for William Carvalho, there was a time the Portuguese press said Porto’s Danilo Pereira was also an alternative for the London side.
When there are nonsense rumours in Portugal, they normally fade away without any reason given. But A Bola comes back to explain why Danilo isn’t a target for the Hammers now, showing some seriousness in this case.
They say the talks were finished because ‘it wouldn’t make sense’ for Porto to put such a valuable player in a waiting line, as second choice for West Ham.
And there would also be the fact Danilo is wanted by ‘bigger clubs’ than West Ham, who have goals like winning the Premier League and fighting for the Champions League title. PSG and Manchester City are named.
A Bola claims that in case Danilo leaves this summer, he should be sold for something close to his release clause, which is €60m.
So if Porto were really demanding that, there was never a reason for West Ham to have him as a back-up plan for Carvalho anyway, as the Sporting player has a €45m release clause.
