West Brom have been linked strongly with Benfica’s Andre Horta in the Portuguese press over the past week.
On Friday, Sport Witness covered claims from Portugal which stated West Brom’s salary offer was good for Horta, and financially a loan deal would also be good for Benfica, but the Portuguese club preferred a loan within the country.
That’s due to a fear Andre Horta could move to West Brom and then not get enough game time. Still, West Brom weren’t giving up on the chase having opened negotiations.
Interestingly, Sunday’s edition of O Jogo reports a West Brom official was spotted at Benfica’s match on Saturday evening.
The Portuguese champions were playing at home and beat Belenenses 5-0, with Horta not involved in the match-day squad.
There’s every chance the West Brom spy was in Lisbon on Horta business, but they’ll have certainly been impressed by Jonas, who scored a hat-trick, and Salvio.
Right back André Almeida also had a good game, and he’s been linked to both Crystal Palace and Southampton this month.
