On Monday, the English press claimed that Crystal Palace and Southampton would be leading the race for Benfica right-back André Almeida.

The two clubs would have sent scouts to watch him last weekend and should battle for the £8m rated player.

It isn’t needed to say that the report made some waves in Portugal Portugal, with the local websites covering it right away, and the morning newspapers all having a story about the reported Crystal Palace and Southampton interest.

There are two different takes on this.

First Record claims Benfica have no intention to sell the player, and in the case they manage to make him stay, he’ll be offered a new and  improved contract after the end of the transfer window.

O Jogo also reckon he’s important for the squad, but believe he could leave for the right price.

That would be €15m for either Crystal Palace or Southampton, and the figure has already scared Eintracht Frankfurt out of the race, leaving the English clubs free to go and get him.
