‘Bye, bye, HSV?’ asks the front page of Hamburger Morgenpost’s Saturday front page.
Pierre-Michel Lasogga’s potential move to Leeds United is really big news in Germany, and especially in the regional Hamburg media.
There’s a strange relationship at Hamburg with Lasogga. His scoring record in his first season, on loan from Hertha Berlin, was good, but that was 2013-2014 and he’s never got close to those heights since.
Despite that there’s still some fondness towards the 25 year old, and although he hasn’t scored many goals since moving to HSV permanently, some of the goals have been crucial. Helping save a club from relegation is always worth some appreciation from fans, and Lasogga have saved himself from being a complete flop.
The striker remains on a huge contract, for Hamburg’s standards, which lasts until June 2019. He’s not in the manager’s plans, and Leeds United interest gives everyone a chance to move forward.
Hamburger Morgenpost report that Leeds United are keen, Lasogga is keen, and Hamburg are keen… but there’s still some hurdles in the way.
A move to Elland Road would be on a loan basis with Leeds having a redemption clause. It’s Leeds United who want the redemption clause, according to these latest German claims.
The German newspaper adds: ‘For HSV sport chief Jens Todt it’s now necessary to negotiate how much of the salary is paid by the English club until next summer.’
If things were to go swimmingly, there’s every chance Pierre-Michel Lasogga could be a cult hero at Leeds United before the end of the season.
But it’s certainly a gamble.
