Over the past couple of weeks, the potential departure of Lucas Biglia from Lazio caused the Italian club to look at replacements, namely Middlesbrough’s Marten de Roon and Southampton’s Jordi Clasie.

However, over the weekend, the possibility of the Argentinean midfielder leaving Rome for Milan became a bit smaller, as talks between the two clubs appear to have stalled.

This means the 31-year-old might end up staying at Lazio, meaning de Roon’s return to Serie A, a move he wouldn’t be against, looked a bit more unlikely.

That is, however, until Sunday night, when an Atalanta fan site made a claim that the Dutch midfielder’s former club want to bring him back just one year after selling him.

Before jumping to conclusions that it’s ‘just a fan site’, it’s worth pointing out that a lot of these Italian sites have a knack for getting the odd bit of information here and there, some more reliable than others.

Bergamo Nerazzura on Monday claim that ‘authoritative sources’ at the club have told them they ‘like’ the idea of the Middlesbrough defensive midfielder returning to the club, even if it was ‘difficult’.

Losing Franck Kessié to AC Milan, a spot in the club’s first-team has opened up for the 26-year-old, who moved from Atalanta to Riverside for just under £13m last year.

This could be nothing, but it also could be the start of something.

We’ll be keeping an eye on any developments over the next few days.
