Arsenal are keen on signing Espanyol goalkeeper Joan García in the summer window.
The Premier League club made an offer towards the end of last summer, but Espanyol rejected it.
Over the past few months, several claims from Spain have reported Arsenal are eyeing a move for the 23-year-old.
El Periódico continue to cover Arsenal’s interest in the stopper, who made 102 saves in La Liga this season.
The Spaniard has a contract until 2028, and it includes a €25m release clause, which will increase by €5m in the last 15 days of the window.
El Periódico state Espanyol will find it difficult to retain him beyond this season. They only name Arsenal as García’s suitor as they tried to sign him last summer.
Mikel Arteta seems to be an admirer of his compatriot as the report states the manager wants García at the Emirates, to compete with David Raya.
Over at Estadio Deportivo, they state Espanyol manager Manolo González has identified the goalkeeper’s replacement, ‘given his likely sale to Arsenal’ in the summer.
Espanyol’s Ángel Fortuño is expected to become García’s successor and González revealed this during a chat with Radio Marca.
“We won’t realise his [García’s] level until a few years from now. Fortuño is very good, I see a very bright future for him,” he said, relayed by Estadio.
