Arne Slot made a mistake in suggesting he did not regret his decision to field a weakened Liverpool team in the loss to Plymouth Argyle.

That’s according to the various journalists and analysts at Vandaag Inside, relayed by Soccer News, who have criticised the Liverpool manager today.

The Reds were dumped out of the FA Cup over the weekend, suffering a surprise 1-0 defeat to Plymouth, who currently sit bottom of the Championship.

It was a deserved win for them, with the Championship side controlling a much-changed Liverpool team for much of the game and never truly being in danger, particularly after going 1-0 ahead from the penalty spot after Harvey Elliot was punished for a handball.

The result has largely been brushed aside by Liverpool, with some fans even suggesting that it may be to their benefit as they chase the Premier League title and even potential Champions League glory.

Exiting the FA Cup has opened up more space in a busy schedule for Arne Slot’s side and the Dutchman was insistent afterwards that he did not regret picking a rotated side.

That’s not gone down well back in the Netherlands, where the likes of Johan Derksen and René van der Gijp were left unimpressed by his demeanour.

“Our friend Slot has also made a big blunder now, right? He was more or less declared holy. Going to Plymouth Argyle with a team with substitutes is very unwise,” started Derksen.

“You know what he thought of course, Johan? It looked pretty good against PSV,” replied Van der Gijp.

“Indeed, it wasn’t bad then. But the fourth round of the cup final in England, that costs a lot of money,” responded Derksen, before journalist Valentijn Driessen added his opinion.

“The worst thing I found was that he said afterwards: ‘I don’t regret it’. If you make such a mistake, you should just regret it,” he added.

“His reasoning was really rubbish. He said: ‘My A-players would have had trouble with Plymouth too, because they have a kick and rush tactic’. This is the first time that he has demonstrably made a blunder.”
