AFC Bournemouth’s Illia Zabarnyi has been included in Paris Saint-Germain’s target list.
That’s according to L’Equipe, who state the 22-year-old pleases the Ligue 1 winners.
The centre-back joined Bournemouth from Dynamo Kyiv in July 2023 and immediately cemented his place at the Vitality Stadium.
Zabarnyi made 63 appearances in all competitions for the Cherries of which 16 are from this season. The Ukraine international’s profile and performances for Andoni Iraola’s side would have attracted interest from PSG.
Luis Enrique’s side are looking for a right footed centre-back and ‘have taken steps’ to sign the Bournemouth player.
L’Equipe say the 22-year-old has been ‘the subject of initial discussions’. They didn’t make it clear whether PSG discussed Zabarnyi internally or with his agent and Bournemouth.
The 22-year-old’s deal lasts until 2029, and this puts Bournemouth in a good position to negotiate his potential sale. There’s another factor that makes the operation complicated for the Paris club and it’s because of Russian international Matvey Safonov.
Russia and Ukraine are involved in an ongoing war and Safonov’s presence at PSG could make it complicated for Zabarnyi’s arrival in Paris.
This is an assumption on L’Equipe’s part because they make it clear the ‘position of the two players is not officially known’.
