Southampton have included Rayo Vallecano’s Abdul Mumin in their ‘list of priorities’ for the winter market.

That’s according to Africa Foot, who state Southampton are closely monitoring the centre-back.

Mumin has been one of the standout performers for the La Liga side, who have conceded 20 goals from 17 league games. He missed only one league tie, and it was during their 3-1 defeat to Las Palmas last month.

Africa Foot say the Ghana international is the Spanish club’s ‘defensive pillar’ and his fine displays have attracted interest from other clubs, including Southampton and Atlético Madrid.

The Premier League side have the second worst defensive record this season and are bottom of the table. Last weekend, they parted ways with manger Russell Martin and are yet to confirm his successor.

Despite this, Africa Foot state Southampton are looking to strengthen their defence and have included the 26-year-old in their priority list.

His current deal lasts until 2026 and he isn’t expected to fulfil his contract. The report states it won’t be easy to take the player away from Rayo Vallecano, who want a fee in excess of €6m to sanction his sale.

The fee quoted would be affordable for the Saints, if they want to sign Mumin in January.
