Roberto de Zerbi has insisted he won’t “copy and paste” what he did at Brighton and Hove Albion with Marseille as he wants the French side to be “more dominant.”
So Foot cover comments from the Marseille boss today from his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash with AS Monaco on Sunday evening.
The Italian boss has been enjoying life in France so far after taking charge in the summer following his surprise exit from Brighton at the end of last season.
His side currently sit third in the Ligue 1 table with eight wins from 12 games and 23 points to their name, three behind Monaco in second and nine behind leaders Paris Saint Germain.
Despite some rocky moments, including one instance where De Zerbi admitted he would resign if people weren’t happy with him, it’s been a loving relationship with Marseille to date.
Indeed, it’s been very similar to his arrival at Brighton, where he came in, introduced an exciting, attacking brand of football and got the club flying, securing their first European qualification. Things became difficult in his second season as injuries hit and he eventually left, seemingly over a disagreement with the direction the club should head in.
And it appears he’s learned from that as he now insists, he won’t be copying and pasting what he did with Brighton in Marseille.
“We’re not going to play the counterattack,” he said when asked what Marseille’s style is.
“The goal is to play much better than we have done so far. I don’t know if we will succeed like my teams in the past and I don’t want to copy and paste what I did with Brighton.
“I’m not looking to do the exact same thing but there are similar characteristics, and I want us to be more dominant.”
