Player has ‘come long way’ since leaving Rangers – ‘Very introverted’ in Glasgow

Malik Tillman was on loan at Rangers before moving to PSV Eindhoven in August 2023.

The 22-year-old graduated from Bayern Munich’s academy but wasn’t able to cement a place in their first team. He was sent out on loan to Rangers during the 2022/23 season.

Tilman arrived at Rangers when Giovanni van Bronckhorst was in charge at Ibrox. The Dutch coach was replaced by Michael Beale, who is current manager Philippe Clement’s predecessor.

According to Voetbal Zone, the attacking midfielder has come ‘a long way’ since leaving the Scottish club.

The Eredivisie side initially signed the player on loan from the Bavarian club in 2023 and made his stay permanent a year later. The German scored nine goals and registered 15 assists from 40 games in all competitions last season.

Tilman has managed five goals and two assists this season, of which one goal was scored in PSV’s 6-0 win over PEC Zwolle at the weekend.

Former Ajax and PSV winger Kenneth Perez, who is an analyst for ESPN NL, is delighted with the player’s development with the Dutch club. He used Tilman’s spell at Rangers as an example to explain it.

“In Glasgow [at Rangers]. He was very introverted. But now he shines! He has grown so incredibly. That is what the Dutch league can do with a player. The Dutch way of working, the tactical part. This boy has blossomed so much,” he said.

At Rangers, Tilman clocked in 1,413 minutes from 20 matches, managing eight goals and two assists in the process.
