Feyenoord director of football Denis te Kloese has revealed they benefit financially from loan deals with the likes of Brighton and Hove Albion and Newcastle United.

Soccer News cover comments from Te Kloese today, made to De Telegraaf, about the deals for the likes of Yankuba Minteh and Ibrahim Osman.

Minteh spent last season with the Dutch side on loan from Newcastle, establishing himself as a key player before then returning to St James Park. The 20-year-old was then sold to Brighton in a €35m deal at the beginning of July.

That left Feyenoord with a gap in their team to fill and they turned to Brighton to do so, signing Osman on loan for the season.

The 19-year-old has only arrived at Brighton this summer after the Seagulls secured a €19.5m deal to sign him from Nordsjaelland earlier this year.

They’ve sent him to the Netherlands in the hope that he can establish himself in Europe and find his feet in the Eredivisie, and Europe, before returning to the club in future.

That’s something they’ve done with players in the past to great success and Te Kloese insists they benefit financially from such arrangements too.

“The relationship between us is to help each other where possible and then the goodwill factor also plays a major role,” he said.

“Such transfer fees (€20m for Osman) in combination with Premier League salaries are unfeasible for Feyenoord.

“But we can offer those clubs and players a sporting platform with the Champions League. That is good for the development of Minteh and now Osman and also attractive for Newcastle and Brighton.

“And for Feyenoord, because players with such qualities make us better and we ultimately see something in return financially if such a player proves himself later or moves to another club for a lot of money.”

“We also benefit from this, financially and sportingly. So, Brighton knows from its own experience that the market value of a player like Osman can increase considerably with us if he does well.”
