Earlier this month, we covered claims from Italy which stated West Ham United’s Edson Álvarez has emerged as a transfer target for AC Milan.
It was also said West Ham could include the 26-year-old to carry out an exchange deal for Milan’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Álvarez is currently with the Mexico camp, preparing for the friendly tie against the United States on Wednesday. This gave TV Azteca Deportes a chance to have a chat with the West Ham player on various topics, including the Hammers exit links.
The former Ajax man was specifically asked about the recent claims of the Serie A side’s interest. When responding to it, the midfielder refused to categorically rule out a move to the San Siro.
Álvarez insists he uses these links as motivation to further improve his game.
“Let’s see, if you are in this environment, rumours will exist, both for you and for us. And well, I think that, as they said, it means that you are doing things well, that they are turning their attention to you,” he said.
“I just use it to my advantage. In the sense of continuing to do what I am doing, trying to improve and well, increase my confidence.”
The Mexico international’s contract lasts until 2028, and this gives the Premier League side power when negotiating a possible transfer.
Álvarez joined the London club from Ajax in August 2023. He made 42 appearances in all competitions last season and has played seven games under Julen Lopetegui this season.
