Finishing their Ligue 1 season in 6th, Bordeaux, thanks to Paris Saint-Germain’s 1-0 win over Angers in the Coupe de France, will be playing Europa League next season.
With this in mind, the club are looking to strengthen their core squad quite considerably in the upcoming transfer window, and high-profile free agents could be the key to that.
One of those, in a position where they desperately need some quality, happens to be soon-to-be ex-Manchester City left-back Gaël Clichy.
Released by the club publicly a week or so ago, the 31-year-old will be looking for a new challenge when his contract with the Citizens runs out on the 30th of June, and Bordeaux are said to be interested.
According to France Football, the Ligue 1 side have enquired about his willingness to sign for them very recently, but could face some competition for the former international.
Reports in England suggest Liverpool are keeping an eye on Clichy as a potential recruit, while the French magazine mention that both Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested.
At this point in his career, our bet is that Clichy will either be desperate to get regular first-team football or cash in the biggest paycheque available.
Bordeaux will certainly offer the former, but the latter… that’s doubtful.
