Fiorentina should try to lure Jean Philippe Mateta from Crystal Palace this summer as he would be an excellent signing for them.

That’s according to agent Oscar Damiani, speaking to Fiorentina News, who believes the Italian side would be pulling off a major coup by securing the Crystal Palace star.

Mateta is enjoying a resurgence this year following the arrival of Oliver Glasner as Crystal Palace coach.

He had struggled to find his best form for the Eagles after arriving in an €11m deal from Mainz in January 2022 but has been resurgent under Glasner, bagging 13 goals in 13 games this season and finishing the campaign with 16 goals and five assists in 35 games in the Premier League.

He’s very much thrived under the Austrian since his arrival and given his career a boost in the process, with many now seeing him as a bonafide Premier League goalscorer.

Naturally that’s led to plenty of rumours about his future, with the Frenchman seemingly enjoying suitors in Italy.

Napoli, for example, have been credited with an interest that could become concrete if they need to replace Victor Osimhen this summer.

Damiani believes a different club should be in the mix, though, telling Fiorentina that the Crystal Palace striker would be a smart target for them.

“The ownership of Fiorentina is of the highest level, Pradè is a manager of the highest level and experience,” he said.

“I expect that the Viola club will do well on the transfer market, perhaps they will sign players who are not well known but who will be important.

“Sorloth, Lucca and Retegui? They are not champions but I like Retegui, he has strength and fights. An environment like Fiorentina could enhance him. I prefer it to the others and two.

“Crystal Palace’sl Mateta? I know him very well, a boy who perhaps hasn’t given his best yet. He can score 10-15 goals and participates in the game, if Fiorentina signs him, he will make an excellent signing.”
