Tottenham Hotspur haven’t forgotten about Marcus Edwards, according to claims from Portugal.

Newspaper Correio da Manhã today writes that Spurs are considering an attempt for his signing, and there’s actually a very specific reason for that.

Since Edwards spent several years in Tottenham’s academy, it’s said he could be one to help them fulfil the percentage of home-grown players in the squad next season.

Due to the deal between Sporting and Spurs, the London side still get 35% of the player’s next transfer, and in this specific case of a return, that would turn into a discount.

Edwards had six goals and nine assists in 44 appearances for the Lions last season, when they won the league title and got to the cup final.

Correio da Manhã writes Tottenham see the player as the ‘best option’ to sort out the home-grown player issue, while the player’s ‘wish to go back home’ also weighs on the positive possibilities.

It should then be up to the clubs to find an agreement for the move. The report says that something around €20m would be enough to convince Sporting.
